Mental Capacity Resources
If you work with adults who may lack the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves, you know how challenging and complex it can be to apply the law and protect their rights and wishes.
You may also know how important it is to keep your knowledge and skills up to date in this area, as the law and guidance change over time.
That’s why you may be interested in the Mental Capacity Toolkit, a free online resource that provides practical and accessible information and education on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) and its implications for health and social care practice.

Safeguarding Adults at Risk of Harm
Safeguarding adults is a vital aspect of health and social care practice, as it aims to protect the rights and well-being of people who are at risk of abuse or harm. However, safeguarding practice can vary widely across different settings and regions, leading to inconsistent outcomes and experiences for service users and carers. To address this issue, we have been involved in developing a national framework for safeguarding adults, as well as various resources and tools to support its implementation.

Building Research Capacity in Social Care

Haiku: A Creative Way to Enhance Critical Reflection in Social Work
Critical reflection is an important skill for social workers, as it helps them to examine their own assumptions, values, and actions, and to learn from their experiences. However, critical reflection can also be challenging, as it requires time, effort, and courage. Some social workers may find it difficult to express their thoughts and feelings, or to explore different perspectives and alternatives.
That’s why some researchers from the National Centre for Cross Disciplinary Social Work (NCCDSW) at Bournemouth University have come up with a creative way to enhance critical reflection in social work: using poetry in the form of haiku.

Financial Scamming and Fraud
Scamming and financial fraud are pervasive crimes that inflict financial and emotional harm on millions of people in the UK each year, eroding public trust. Scammers employ various methods and platforms, including phone calls, emails, social media, and online dating, to deceive and manipulate their victims. Certain demographics, such as the elderly, youth, the lonely, and those facing life challenges, may be more susceptible to targeting.
Collaborating with various partners, the NCCDSW has conducted pioneering research on scamming and fraud. It provides a wealth of resources on financial scamming and fraud, including guides, publications, reports, and helpful tools.
