Today, we are delighted to be part of the Colyton Grammar School Cyber Day, a unique event that aims to inspire and educate young people about cyber security.

The event is part of the CyberFirst programme, which is designed to identify and nurture a diverse range of talented young people into a cyber security career. The event features a variety of cyber security programmes, learning resources and activities, such as:

  • CyGamBIT, a digital game-based learning platform that teaches cyber security concepts and skills through engaging and immersive games. CyGamBIT is developed by a team of researchers from Bournemouth University, led by Jane Henriksen-Bulmer and Emily Rosenorn-Lanng, with the support of the CyberASAP InnovateUK programme. We have the privilege of being joined by Amanda Lazar, BU Impact specialist, for the day.
  • Cynam Communications, a cyber security consultancy that provides video recordings and general support for the event. Cynam also organises regular cyber security events and workshops for schools and businesses in the South West.
  • GCHQ Bude, a signals intelligence station that intercepts and analyses communications from around the world. GCHQ Bude will introduce the students to the fascinating world of classic codebreaking and cryptography, and how they are used to protect national security.
  • CACI, a technology and innovation company that provides solutions for defence, intelligence, and civil government. CACI will show the students how space weather and the solar system affect cyber security and communications, and how they monitor and mitigate these risks.
  • Cognition Learning, a STEM education provider that uses LEGO to teach cyber security and other subjects. Cognition Learning will demonstrate how LEGO can be used to build cyber safe devices and networks, and how to apply cyber security principles in a fun and creative way.

We are very grateful to Jonathan from GCHQ outreach for inviting us and Charlotte at Cynam for introducing us to such brilliant collaborators. We hope that the students will enjoy the event and learn something new and useful about cyber security. Follow us on x @CyGamBITUK and LinkedIn for more updates and photos from the event.
