Meet the team

Christopher Ademuwagun

Senior Lecturer, AMHP Lead

I’m delighted to have joined Bournemouth University as the new AMHP Programme Lead. I bring a wealth of experience as a Senior Lecturer, Senior AMHP, Best Interests Assessor, and Advanced Mental Health Practitioner. I currently practise within Emergency Duty Teams and hold a strong interest in mental health law, capacity, and forensic practice. I’m passionate about preparing the next generation of AMHPs and look forward to working collaboratively across the university and our partner agencies to support excellence in mental health social work education.

Academically, I hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work with Distinction and received the Gold Overall Best Student Award at the University of Hertfordshire. I also completed an MSc in Advanced Practice with the University of London, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCert), and AMHP/BIA qualifications with Bournemouth University.

My practice background includes roles within Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust’s Intensive Case Management for Psychosis Team, the Physical and Sensory Impairment Team at Essex County Council, and extensive work within high, medium, and low secure forensic units at the North London Forensic Service. I also have significant experience in the application of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in mental health settings.

Earlier in my career, I worked as a Local Authority Administrator. My academic background is in Economics and Statistics, and I spent a decade in the Registration Service, covering Births, Deaths, Marriages, Nationality, and British Citizenship, including serving as a Registrar and Deputy Superintendent Registrar. I was also a Home Office Assessor for the Registration Service.

My professional passion lies in the criminal justice system, youth offending management, and forensic mental health. I bring over 49 years of combined experience across both public and private sectors.
