Professor Basma Ellahi

Professor of Public Health Nutrition

Basma Ellahi is a Professor of Public Health Nutrition, registered public health nutritionist, and senior academic leader with extensive expertise in community engagement, co-production, health improvement, and capacity building. Her work focuses on reducing health inequalities through evidence-based approaches that promote healthy lifestyles, improve nutrition, and empower individuals and communities to take greater control of their health and wellbeing.

 

Throughout her career, Basma has collaborated with diverse communities, public sector organisations, healthcare providers, and third-sector partners to develop and deliver initiatives that improve health outcomes, particularly for underserved and marginalised populations. She was a co-investigator on the TANGERINE and NIHR funded InflAIM project leading Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities and knowledge mobilisation with diverse communities ensuring meaningful community participation throughout the research process. Basma is currently employed at Canterbury Christ Church University (Basma Ellahi – Canterbury Christ Church University). She remains closely connected to communities in the Northwest of England, where much of her ongoing research and engagement work continues.
